Behind the scenes of Wound, Halle Berry’s new film on Netflix, was marred by controversy. UFC fighter Cat Zingano sued those responsible for the feature after allegedly losing a role in the Netflix feature. After months in silence, Berry – who is also the film’s director – opened the game and detonated the athlete.
Cat Zingano would have met Halle Berry in July 2019. At the time, the fighter would have been described as “perfect for the project”. Zingano was encouraged to cancel her upcoming UFC fights in order to be part of the film safely, but later ended up being sidelined from the project.
For this reason, Cat claims that her career was jeopardized due to her unfulfilled commitments with the film, and claims moral and property damages from Halle Berry.
Now it’s Halle Berry who sues Cat Zingano. The actress filed a lawsuit against the fighter, and offered another explanation for the athlete’s dismissal in the UFC; see below.
Halle Berry counterattacks in Wound
In documents recently submitted by Halle Berry, in a new lawsuit, the actress explains that Zingano chose to give up a UFC fight to participate in the film Ferida.
“Zingano chose to appear in the movie and not participate in his next fight. She made this decision knowing how much she would earn and the role she would play in Ferida”, says the actress in the documents.
The TMZ website had access to the lawsuit, in which Halle Berry claims she is not to blame for Zingano’s dismissal.
“The UFC fired Zingano because she lost 4 of her last 5 fights. Although these events took place 2 years ago, Zingano only opened the process to capitalize on the launch of Wound on Netflix, which took place on November 24, 2021,” the lawsuit states.
Thus, Halle Berry believes that all actions brought by the fighter must be filed by the American Justice.
For those who haven’t seen it yet, Ferida follows the story of Jackie Justice, a discredited MMA fighter who seeks redemption as an athlete – while trying to raise the son she abandoned at the beginning of her sporting career.[display-posts orderby="rand"]
Everything changes when the protagonist of Halle Berry receives an irrefutable invitation to face the fighter Lady Killer, with a payment of 10 thousand dollars even in case of defeat.
Probably, Cat Zingano was considered for the role of Lady Killer, who ended up getting another pro wrestler.
In Ferida, Lady Killer is played by Valentina Shevchenko, who is currently the UFC Women’s Flyweight World Champion – a title she has held since 2018.
Ferida is available on the Brazilian Netflix catalogue.
