Wormuth and FC Groningen separated immediately

FC Groningen will resume the competition after the World Cup without trainer Frank Wormuth, the club reports on their website official website. The Groningen team will immediately stop working with the coach after the club has been performing poorly all season.

The Pride of the North has come to the conclusion that there is insufficient support within the club for allowing the German coach to stay on longer. FC Groningen is currently in a moderate fifteenth position, which puts the club just above the relegation zone.

Response from technical director Fledderus

Technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus explains the decision. ‘Last winter we chose Frank as the new head coach of FC Groningen with full conviction. This now appears to have been a major error of judgment, which I blame myself as technically ultimately responsible.’

The club will decide during the winter break what the technical staff will look like for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
