World Cup 2022: opening game of the World Cup 2022: place, date, match, broadcast on TV and live stream

Only a few more weeks until the wait is over: The 2022 World Cup is about to begin. But who is actually playing the opening game? All information about the encounter, transmission, place and date can be found here.

Qatar 2022 World Cup is just around the corner. A total of 32 teams will soon be dueling for the popular and prestigious World Cup trophy over a period of almost four weeks. It starts, as always, with the opening game of the host country – in this case Qatar. But this time it wasn’t as natural as it was in the past.

Originally, the organizers wanted to stage three games directly on the opening day. The Qatar national team should therefore benefit from the most prominent time from a TV point of view, the evening. But that would have meant that the home side would only play the third tournament game. In July of this year, the start was rescheduled again: The opening game now takes place one day before the other two games.

But who will be the opponent Qatar? When does the game take place? And where will it be seen? We answer all these questions in this article.

Opening game of the 2022 World Cup: place, date, encounter

As an opponent of Qatar, the selection of Ecuador was chosen. The South Americans are going into the race as clear favorites with the Qataris, who have not yet been able to make a name for themselves as a footballing nation. At last year’s Copa America, the South American equivalent of the European Championship, the Tricolores reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated (0-3) by eventual winners Argentina.

The opening game is scheduled to be played on Sunday, November 20 at Al-Bayt Stadium in the desert city of Al-Khor. The arena has a total of 60,000 seats and was inaugurated in December last year. The kick-off time was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CET). The time difference to Qatar is plus two hours, so the game on site starts at 7 p.m.

Like all other World Cup participants, Qatar and Ecuador have now announced their 26-man squad for the World Cup.
