Denmark vs. Tunisia: Group game at the 2022 World Cup NOW in the live ticker – before the start
Before start: The game will be played at Education City Stadium in Al-Rayyan. 40,000 spectators can be seated in the arena, which was used for football matches for the first time in 2020: In the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, Bayern won 1-0 against Tigres from Mexico. After the Nations World Cup, the capacity will be reduced to 25,000 and the stadium will remain as a venue – including for student teams. The name comes from the so-called Education City: an extensive complex of modern educational institutions on the outskirts of Al-Rayyan, just a few kilometers from Doha. Numerous universities, research institutes and other educational institutions have settled on twelve square kilometers.
Before start: In detail: With Dylan Bronn (US Salernitana, Serie A) and Montassar Talbi (FC Lorient, Ligue 1), the team has internationally tried and tested central defenders, while Cologne’s Ellyes Skhiri clears away in front of the defence. The problem area is the offensive. The Tunisians are traditionally not known to be a goal threat, as can be seen in the knockout games for World Cup qualification when they beat Mali in (1-0, 0-0) but the only goal was an own goal.
Before start: The Tunisian starting position is of course different. In a group with France and Denmark, the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations winners are left with nothing more than an outsider role. In each of the five World Cup participations, most recently in Russia, the North Africans have already failed in the preliminary round – that threatens again this time. Although the Tunisians, as proven defensive specialists, can become an unpleasant tournament team – the lack of offensive power should prevent a surprise (the round of 16).
Before start: From a sporting point of view, Denmark has every reason to be excited. At last year’s European Championship, they only failed in the semi-finals against hosts England. An outstanding qualification played with nine wins in a row. The defeat in the meaningless last game against Scotland (0:2) did not change the sovereign group victory with a goal difference of 30:3 (!). And in the Nations League, reigning world champions (and group opponents) France were defeated twice more. Rarely did Denmark go into a tournament with such high expectations.
Before start: Denmark is one of the nations where this World Cup is viewed particularly critically given the human rights situation in Qatar. The Danish national team wanted to train during the World Cup with the slogan “Human Rights for all” – banned by FIFA. The Danish association still caused a stir with its choice of clothes for the games: In addition to the red home jerseys and the white away jerseys, there is a third set: All in black and very simple, the logos of the supplier and association are hardly recognizable. The shirts are intended to set an example against exploitation. Whether the third kits will be used depends on the course of the Danish tournament.
Before start: Tunisia dared to do a dress rehearsal – and it was a success. It was 2-0 against Iran. Using this game, there are three changes: Bronn, Ben and Slimane play in place of Ghandri, Hannibal and Khazri (all on the bench).
Before start: This is how Tunisia begins (3-4-3): Dahmen – Bronn, Meriah, Talbi – Dräger, Skhiri, Laidouni, Abdi, Ben Slimane, Msakni – Jebali.
Before start: Denmark did not play a test match before the World Cup, the last appearance was around three months ago: Despite a 2-0 win over France, they missed the final round in the Nations League. In comparison, coach Kasper Hjulmand sets his team a little more defensively. Central defender Kjaer is new, but attacker Damsgaard (bench) gives way. The Danes are switching to a chain of three, which defensively will probably become a chain of five.
Before start: This is how Denmark starts the tournament (3-4-1-2): Schmeichel – Christensen, Kjaer, Andersen – Kristensen, Delaney, Höjbjerg, Maehle, Skov Olsen, Eriksen – Dolberg.
Before start: Secret favorites would probably be a little over the top, but the Danes shouldn’t be underestimated at least since last year’s European Championships. In Qatar they can prove that the storm was not a positive exception until the EM semifinals. The Africans have never made it past the preliminary round in their five World Cup appearances so far.
Before start: The first game in Group D at the 2022 World Cup kicks off at 2pm at Education City Stadium. At 8 p.m., the other two teams in Group D, France and Australia, will meet.
