Matchday 1 of the 2022 World Cup group stage:
Al Bayt Stadium (Al-Khor, Qatar).
Qatar – Ecuador: 0 to 2.
Goals: Valencia (16th, 31st) for Ecuador.
In the opening match of the 2022 World Cup, Ecuador made short work of Qatar thanks to a great nights Enner Valencia (2-0).
After being denied a goal by the VAR for a very questionable offside from the start of the match (3rd), Enner Valencia did not let the suspense last too long. Provoking the fault of the Qatari goalkeeper El-Sheeb, the Ecuadorian striker effectively opened the scoring for good on a penalty shot quietly (0-1 in the 16th). Half an hour into the game, the Fenerbahçe player then doubled the bet with an uncrossed header on a nice cross from Preciado (0-2 in the 31st). Just before the break, Qatar could have closed the gap with Almoez Ali but his header was just wide (45th + 5).
Back from the locker room, Ecuador did not force their talent and lost their captain Valencia to a knee injury (76th). At the end of the match, Qatar pushed a little with Muntari (86th), without final success (0-2).
