World Cup 2022: Competition is marked by several protests from the national teams. Check the list!

Iran players protest for women in the country

On Monday (21), it was the turn of Iran’s players to protest on behalf of women. The athletes did not sing the national anthem in the match against England. The gesture was in solidarity with the protests that have been taking place in Iran since September this year.

Demonstrations in Iran began after Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old girl, was arrested and killed by the “moral police” for having left a few strands of her hair showing due to carelessness in her hijab. The case had repercussions around the world.

In addition, Iranian women who were at the 2022 World Cup cheered against the national team, watching the match in the England crowd. During the protest in the anthem, some got emotional.

Furthermore, the English players took a knee before the start of the game in protest against racism.
