Almuth Schult was born on February 9, 1991 and grew up in eastern Lower Saxony. There she started playing football at FC SG Gartow at the young age of five. In 2007 she moved to the youth department of HSV. There she gained her first experience in the adult sector.
A year later she moved to Stendal (Saxony-Anhalt) for personal reasons. In the regional league at Magdeburger FFC, she continued her career and managed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga North as a first-choice goalkeeper.
The SC 07 Bad Neuenahr steered her into the women’s Bundesliga in 2011. After the club went bankrupt two years later, she moved to top club VfL Wolfsburg. She kept goal for the Wolves for 137 games and holds the record for the most minutes without conceding a goal in the women’s Bundesliga. Her greatest successes with VfL Wolfsburg were winning the league and DFB Cup doubles in 2020 and 2022. In Europe’s premier class, she celebrated winning the Champions League in 2014.
After refusing to extend her contract with VfL Wolfsburg, she announced that she would go to the USA in the summer after the 2022 European Championship. There she signed in Los Angeles with Angel City FC. After only one game, she left the United States prematurely. The mother of two twins left open whether she would continue her career.

Almuth Schult’s national team career began extremely successfully. In 2010 she became U20 World Champion and was an integral part of the German national team from the 2011 World Cup. Schult became European champion in 2013 as a substitute goalkeeper.
Almuth Schult was appointed by the then national coach Silvia Neid to succeed Nadine Angerer and won the gold medal as the first-choice goalkeeper at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In the following major tournaments followed two defeats in the quarterfinals.
For the 2022 European Championship in England, Almuth Schult traveled to the German national team as a substitute goalkeeper. Although she did not play behind first-choice goalkeeper Merle Frohms, she was a very important part of the squad and celebrated the runner-up spot in the European Championship.
