Indeed, this Monday, March 6 celebrates thecentennial of the American Battle Monument’s Commission, an agency that works to oversee American military cemeteries abroad, created in 1923. This organization cares for, honors and commemorates American soldiers who have fallen in combat during major world conflicts. In total, we count 12 American military cemeteries in Franceincluding two in the Île-de-France region: the Suresnes American Cemetery and the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial Cemeteryin the park of Saint-Cloud
The Suresnes American Cemetery has 1,565 military graves, which will each be illuminated with candles during the commemoration of this Monday, March 6. The celebration is thus an opportunity to discover this cemetery, usually only open during the day, in its nocturnal mode and by candlelight (electric so as not to degrade anything).
