Has The Crown been canceled by Netflix? How many seasons will the series have?

First, it’s important to clarify that The Crown has not been canceled by Netflix. After the 6th season, the series simply reaches its natural conclusion.

In fact, The Crown will outlast the platform’s original plan. At first, Netflix’s intention was to produce only 5 seasons.

However, with the huge success of the series – both with the public and with the critics – streaming gave the green light for the production of a final year.

That is: The Crown reaches its planned finale in season 6, which still does not have a premiere date on Netflix.

Filming for the 6th and final season of The Crown has begun, but has been halted out of respect for the passing of Elizabeth II. The monarch of the United Kingdom, it is worth remembering, died on September 8, 2022.

“The Crown is a love letter to her, and for now, I have nothing to say – just silence and respect,” said showrunner Peter Morgan.

In an official note sent to the press, Netflix also confirmed the stoppage of filming for season 6 of The Crown.

“As a mark of respect, we have suspended filming on The Crown. Recordings were also stopped at Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral,” the platform confirmed.

Season 6 of The Crown will be set in the 2000s, following the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death and the coming of age of Princes William and Harry.

According to Deadline, newcomers Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy will play Prince William and Kate Middleton. It is unknown if the series will show the Royal Wedding.

In addition, the last few episodes are expected to address the passing of Princess Margaret and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Both died in 2002.
