First time MLA Bhupendra Patel has traveled from the municipal level leader to the top post in the politics of the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday decided to make Bhupendra Rajinikanth Patel the new Chief Minister of Gujarat. Bhupendra Rajinikanth Patel belongs to the Patidar community and is a devotee of Dada Bhagwan. This is the reason why he is known as Dada among his people. Patel is also considered to be godly and religious in nature.

Patel is going to take oath on Monday. First time MLA Bhupendra Patel has traveled from the municipal level leader to the top post in the politics of the state. He will replace Vijay Rupani as the Chief Minister. After Rupani’s sudden resignation on Saturday, the names of some leaders of the Patidar community were running as his successor, but suddenly the name of Bhupendra Patel appeared, which was not discussed anywhere. Some political observers said the BJP has recently appointed less popular leaders as chief ministers of states. He said that the party wants to create a new leadership in the states and Pushkar Singh Dhami as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand is also an example of this.

Patel contested from the state’s Ghatlodiya assembly seat for the first time in 2017 and won by over 1.17 lakh votes, a record in that election. He has the image of a soft spoken leader. Patel, fondly called ‘Dada’ among his supporters, is considered close to Anandiben Patel, former Gujarat Chief Minister and Uttar Pradesh Governor. The assembly he represents is part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, from where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is an MP.

Patel was the chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) from 2015 to 2017. Prior to this, he was the chairman of the standing committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the largest urban body of Gujarat from 2010 to 2015. People who know Patel closely describe him as a down-to-earth leader who meets people with a smile on his face. Patel, who holds a diploma in civil engineering, was active in local politics before contesting the assembly elections and was a member of the Ahmedabad district’s Memnagar municipality and became its chairman twice.

He is also the Trustee of Sardardham Vishwa Patidar Kendra, an organization dedicated to the socio-economic development of the Patidar community. Born in Ahmedabad, Patel has toured many parts of the world. His wife Hetalben is a housewife. According to a colleague of Patel, he enjoys taking part in spiritual activities and likes cricket and badminton. Patel was seen planting saplings in his constituency on Sunday morning ahead of a meeting of BJP MLAs for the selection of the leader at Kamalam, the BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar.
