Well, now: “Harry Potter” sequel is said to be in the works

Other offshoots of the “Fantastic Beasts” series are not doing particularly well at the moment. But the Warner boss is now putting a new project on the studio’s to-do list.

David Zaslav, head of Warner Bros. Discovery, recently announced that the studio would like to focus more on in-house brands such as DC and Harry Potter in the future. After the plans for a film adaptation of the play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” once discarded, it is now reappearing in the list of planned projects, according to Puck News (via ScreenRant) reported.

In 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child premiered at the Palace Theater in London’s West End. Written by Jack Thorne, the play guides the story of the novels and, accordingly, the films 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 away. The plot revolves around Harry and his son Albus Severus, who wants nothing to do with his father and struggles to come to terms with his family’s legacy during his time at Hogwarts. In the course of the play, numerous well-known characters – including, of course, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger – appear along with their children.

Now the studio boss of Warner Bros. Discovery wants to adapt this story for the big screen, according to the report. With the failure of the last installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” series raising doubts about the two planned sequels, the studio may want to expand the universe of witches and wizards elsewhere. According to the plot, Warner Bros. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” could therefore be called ninth feature film in the Harry Potter series market.

Several years have passed since Harry’s last adventure and we sadly had to say goodbye to many a star of the films. In our video we tell you which stars have unfortunately already left us:

A film adaptation was planned years ago

Warner Bros. was already interested in a film adaptation during the burgeoning success of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” according to the report from Puck News (via Comicbook.com). The play, which was performed in two parts, should also be two-piece be transported to the big screen. But due to lack of interest and growing doubts of the “Harry Potter” creator JK Rowling and its representatives, who among other things saw the success of the play as being endangered by a film, the project never materialized.

Even within the studio, some filmmakers spoke out against the film adaptation, since the continuation of the “Harry Potter” series was a kind of public Admission to the failure of the Fantastic Beasts series would have been. In his recent statement, David Zaslav announced that they look forward to working with JK Rowling on future Harry Potter projects. Whether the British author is now more open to an adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” can only be guessed at the current time.
