God of War: Ragnarok may have brought about the long-awaited conflict between Thor and Kratos, but that fight has happened long before in Marvel comics.
In the early 1970s, Marvel Comics showed the two gods fighting well before video games. In Avengers #99, Kratos and his fellow demigoddess Bia attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to arrest Hercules.
However, before capturing the mighty hero, Thor and Kratos sparred, with Thor landing a few good hits with Mjolnir before his opponent walked away.
Kratos is the protagonist of the God of War franchise. In God of War: Ragnarok, Kratos and his son Atreus face the Norse god Thor, who wields the famous hammer against the mighty god of war.
However, long before Kratos and Thor fought in God of War, they fought each other in the pages of Marvel. Kratos has a brief but remarkable history of going up against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
In Avengers #99 by Marvel Comics’ Roy Thomas, Barry Smith-Windsor, Tom Sutton and Art Simek, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes attempt to discover what happened to Hercules after the hero returns to his base with no memories.
While looking for solutions for Hercules, the Avengers are attacked by Kratos and Bia, who Ares sends to capture the Greek god.
Thor and the other heroes exchange several blows and the God of Thunder even nearly knocks Kratos out with Mjolnir.
While Thor was one of the best equipped and most effective heroes against Kratos and Bia, his efforts with Mjolnir still weren’t enough to take down his fellow gods.
