Weather: 40 departments on storm vigilance and 27 on heat wave alert, the latest forecasts for this Friday, August 5

The latest Météo France bulletin has just placed 27 departments on heat wave alert and 40 on thunderstorm vigilance. The latest forecast at 4 p.m. this Friday, August 5.

After a scorching night and day in the south-east of France, the heat wave continues. Violent thunderstorms are expected to sweep the eastern part of France.

27 departments on yellow and orange alert for the heat wave

Meteo France is still continuing its vigilance for high heat in 27 departments, including 9 on orange alert and 18 on yellow alert. Vigilance has been lifted for 10 departments located in the west of the country. Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Ain, Isère, Rhône, Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse and Gard remain on orange alert. Météo France announces that it is a “scorch episode of lesser intensity than the previous one, but lasting over the Rhône valley and the Mediterranean rim.”

40 departments in yellow and orange vigilance for thunderstorms

In all, 35 departments are placed on yellow alert for storms. These departments are rather located in the east of France, from north to south. 5 departments are placed in orange vigilance: Ardèche, Haute-Loire, Loire, Isère and Drôme. Météo France warns of “violent thunderstorms likely to locally cause significant damage”. Storm activity can “generate violent phenomena (hail in particular)” and requires “special monitoring.”
