“Very, very cool”
“The Rock” would like to be the next Bond
Almost as beautiful as the dispute over the best Bond is the question: who will be next? After Daniel Craig’s favorite Jürgen Klopp had dismissed him because he would rather remain a football coach, “The Rock” Johnson is now bringing himself up for discussion.
Could Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson get a license to kill? The Hollywood megastar would at least like to see himself as a secret agent in Her Majesty’s service. He wouldn’t be the first in the family to star in a Bond movie. Peter Maivia, Johnson’s grandfather, was the villain in Sean Connery’s “James Bond 007 – You Only Live Twice”.
Johnson thinks the performance is “very, very cool,” as he reveals in an interview with Esquire magazine. “And I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond,” he continues. The star does not want to portray one of the opponents, it has to be the agent.
But rather Idris Elba or Henry Cavill?
Even if the new “James Bond 007: No Time to Die” is a huge hit at the box office, Daniel Craig will no longer play the role in the future. In the run-up to the publication of his last Bond film, there had already been extensive discussions about who could be his successor. The name Johnson was rarely mentioned in many places.
Countless names have made the rounds in the past few months – none of them has yet been confirmed. Often named were for example “Superman” actor Henry Cavill, “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page and colleagues such as Tom Hardy, Sam Heughan, Richard Madden, James Norton and Idris Elba.
“Jürgen Klopp would be great”
A man who Craig himself brought into play is considered a rather unlikely candidate. In an interview with the “Welt am Sonntag”, the Liverpool fan said in early October when asked whether soccer coach Jürgen Klopp could be a good Bond opponent: “Jürgen Klopp would be a great James Bond.”[display-posts orderby="rand"]
A gender change at Bond had already been canceled before the premiere of the last Craig appearance: To the brief passionate debate about a possible female 007, the incumbent first waved off, then the Bond producer Barbara Broccoli seconded: As long as she is in charge, don’t become a woman become a version of 007. That limits the field of possible successors considerably.
