What has been hinted at over the last few months and years is becoming more and more of a bitter certainty: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” means the end for several MCU veterans.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3
All good things come in threes is probably James Gunn’s motto. The director and screenwriter caused a sensation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with soon to be three Guardians films. Now the deserved promotion followed – but with the competition from DC. There, Gunn, as CO chairman and one of two CEOs, is supposed to steer the fortunes of the superhero films with Batman, Wonder Woman and Co. Gunn’s departure from the MCU is a done deal, he never made a secret of the fact that the coming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” his last part is supposed to be with Havoc Squad. But what about Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Co. without James Gunn?
Marvel fans obviously have to expect the worst when they flock to the cinemas next year, because Gunn isn’t the only one saying goodbye with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. Drax actor Dave Bautista has announced his MCU exit more than once, Nebula actress Karen Gillan says she’s unsure if she’ll return. And Zoe Saldaña is also saying goodbye. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly made her sit up and take notice with the following statements:
“Shooting started off bitterly because obviously you foresee the ending, but I’m just so glad I got to work with these amazing people again.”
“I’ve seen a development in myself, but also in my director and cast. I just feel very blessed and grateful. It was a very nice exit, I have to say.”
Our video proves that things can get silly behind the MCU scenes:
New Guardians squad after Guardians of the Galaxy 3?
The farewell to Gamora, played by Zoe Saldaña, is not official yet, so it could also be that the actress is only talking about the end of the previous Guardians squad. But in view of such sentences, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if we don’t see Gamora again on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. Especially since the well-known Gamora already died in “Avengers: Infinity War”. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Zoe Saldaña will again play the version who traveled to the future in 2014’s Avengers: Endgame and thus has no memories of Star-Lord and the other members of her adopted family. Accordingly, we can be curious how Guardian’s request to include her in the team will react.

So “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” represents a break for the well-known team. But that doesn’t have to mean that the Guardians as a concept are history. Rather, the plan should be to replace a number of members and present a new troupe in the future, in which MCU newcomer Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) will certainly also play a role. After all, Marvel fans have been longing for his debut for years, so the mighty Marvel hero will not be shelved after just one adventure.
It is therefore conceivable that Star-Lord will gather a new group around itself, which will then continue to grow in new Guardians films – unless Chris Pratt also gets out. However, these potential projects will also require new creative direction, and James Gunn may have a hard time succeeding, given that his work is hugely popular with fans. But that is currently a dream of the future, first of all, the focus is on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, which will be released on May 3, 2023 starts in German cinemas. And before that expects you even from that November 25, 2022 “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” at Disney+, for which the first trailer was recently released.
