Ventotene Film Festival 2022 kicks off today: guests Michele Placido, Tosca and Susanna Nicchiarelli

Susanna Nicchiarelli, Massimo Cantini Parrini, Michele Placido and Tosca among the guests of the Ventotene Film Festival 2022, from 23 July to 1 August.

From 23 July to 1 August 2022 the appointment with the Ventotene Film Festival 2022, the initiative conceived and directed by Loredana Commonara, now in its XXVII edition, which marries the values ​​of environmental sustainability, inclusiveness and the enhancement of the work of women who write, produce and direct in Italian cinema. These and many others were the guests of the ten days characterized by over 50 screenings and 2 international competitions: OPEN FRONTIERS, a selection of films and documentaries from all over the world, focusing on the themes of Europe, active citizenship and racial integration; GREEN PATH, for films dedicated to ecology, safeguarding the ecosystem and the planet. To further enrich this year’s program, a section dedicated to Ukrainian documentaries in world premiere: a symbolic way to support the professionals of the Ukrainian cinema world in this terrible historical moment.

It starts on 23 July with the screening of the short film Behind the door, the cinematographic transposition of the autobiographical story Era mio padre by the writer Claudia Saba, directed by Walter Croce. In the presence of the director and the author, the public will thus be able to witness the touching story, recently presented to the Senate, of a story of violence against women and abuse in the home. The meeting will be moderated by Professor Paolo Cutolo.

The appointments continue on July 24 with the director Simone Aleandri who will introduce his first work The Longest Night of the Year, part of a section of the Festival entirely dedicated to promoting the works of new Italian directors. In the same section there is also Body to Body, the docufilm directed by Maria Iovine, protagonist of the evening of 25 July.

Among the unmissable appointments of this edition is undoubtedly the meeting with TOSCA who will introduce the screening of the documentary The sound of the voice, directed by Emanuela Giordano and will perform in a special CONVERSACONCERTO, live in acoustic trio accompanied by Giovanna Famulari at the Cello and Massimo De Lorenzi on guitar.

Michele Placido: “Netflix? I prefer the freedom of cinema”

The Ventotene Film will also pay homage to the unforgettable Monica Vitti. Michele Placido will remember her on July 28 in an appointment focused on the documentary by Fabrizio Corallo Vitti d’Arte, Vitti d’amore. During the evening, the actor and director will receive the Wind of Europe International Award, under the High Patronage of the European Parliament. The same award will also be awarded to Massimo Cantini Parrini. On 29 July, in fact, the award-winning costume designer, nominated for the 2022 Oscars for Joe Wright’s film Cyrano, will accompany director Susanna Nicchiarelli in a special study on Miss Marx, Film of the Year at Nastri d’Argenti 75. On this occasion, the director will receive one of the Festival’s historic awards: the Julia Major Award.

Among the guests also the Macedonian director TEONA STRUGAR MITEVSKA, protagonist on July 30 of an international masterclass on her career: from the successes at the Berlin Film Festival to future works. The appointment with Open Frontiers Young, the competition dedicated to short films entirely made by Italian students, is renewed again this year.
