The artistic director of the Turin Film Festival Stefano Francia di Celle declares: “The cinema that rewrites history: five points of view to tell events that have inflamed Italy. Emotions, surprises, enthusiasm and acrimonies are wisely intertwined with precious archive materials to give life on the screen to a living and changing truth. The TFF cheers for the directorial debut of a star of Italian cinema “.

“It was an important page in our history and in these days in Turin, tennis is once again the protagonist with the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup” underline Enzo Ghigo and Domenico De Gaetano, respectively president and director of the National Cinema Museum of Turin. “Past and present ideally meet on the cinema screen and on the pitch, giving the spectators those emotions that only big events can give.”

This the synopsis of A team: The years we are talking about go from 1976 to 1980. Sport is tennis. We are in Italy and the trophy we are fighting for is the Davis Cup. The team is made up of four players: Adriano Panatta, Corrado Barazzutti, Paolo Bertolucci, Tonino Zugarelli. In those five years they reached the final four times, winning only once: in ’76 against Chile. Italy in the Chile of the dictator Pinochet. The finals reached but then lost are in ’77 against Australia, in ’79 against the USA and in ’80 against Czechoslovakia. In the first two editions, ’76 and ’77, the team has as captain non-player an Italian tennis legend, Nicola Pietrangeli, who retired from competitive activity only a few years ago. Pietrangeli, who was himself a finalist in 1960 and 1961, will be sacked by his own team after the ’77 defeat in Australia. He is the fifth protagonist of our history.
