Here comes the peak of the traffic ofsummer 2022: “Heavy traffic” with classification of black and red stamp for the entire weekend of 5-7 August is what is foreseen by Viabilità Italia. The first weekend of August – traditionally that of the great exodus – thus becomes a testing ground for the stability of the Italian road system. The weekend starts with a red dot starting from the morning of Friday 5th August which will also be dominant during the afternoon. The most “critical” situations concern the Gran San Bernardo tunnel (in both directions), the A4 at the Padua and Trieste junctions and the traffic leaving the big cities. During the day, heavy vehicle traffic (with a mass exceeding 7.5 tons) will be prohibited from 4 to 10 pm.
Saturday 6th Auguston the other hand, the major movements towards the holiday resorts are expected and the morning is characterized by black stamp, color that indicates more critical levels of traffic. In the afternoon, a slight decrease in the intensity of the queues is expected: le connecting lines between north and south – according to what Autostrade per l’Italia reports – the busiest. In particular, the A1 Milan-Naples, the A14 Bologna-Taranto (and to the south the A30 Caserta-Salerno). On this day, the block to the circulation of heavy vehicles (over 7.5 tons) from 8 to 22 is in force. The situation does not change. Sunday 7 Augustwith traffic from red dot especially in view of the return of weekend vacationers. This is why intense slowdowns are expected even in the direction of large cities. From 7 to 22 the circulation of heavy vehicles is prohibited.
Probable queues in a southerly direction also during the following weekend, the one before August 15th, in conjunction with which there will also be movements for the first returns to the cities and regions of the north. The ban for trucks will therefore also be extended to the weekend of 12-14 August, including the day of August 15th (Monday 15 August). From the second half of August, the major movements will concern returns to large urban centers and will be concentrated mainly on Saturdays and Sundays with red dot forecasts.
