- KL Rahul to lead Punjab Kings in IPL in UAE
- Rahul batted brilliantly in the first half of IPL.
Former India captain Gautam Gambhir has expressed hope for KL Rahul to perform well in the rest of the IPL, saying he is yet to deliver his best performance despite averaging above 50 in all three seasons.
Punjab Kings captain Rahul has scored runs in seven matches this year at an average of 66. The IPL, which was postponed in May due to the Corona epidemic, will now resume in the UAE from Sunday.
Gambhir said in Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’, ‘We have not seen the best performance of KL Rahul yet. He has scored runs but we haven’t seen what he can achieve in batting. He can play a season like Virat Kohli once played. He is such a limited overs cricketer who can score two, three centuries in a season at the best strike rate.
Rahul has scored 331 runs in seven IPL matches this season, including four half-centuries. He is second in the list of highest run-scorers in IPL 2021.
‘Bumrah and Bolt can prove fatal’
Regarding other teams, Gambhir said that the conditions in UAE are favorable for defending champions Mumbai Indians. Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings will face each other in the first match on Sunday. Gambhir said, ‘Look at the situation in Chepauk or Delhi, they are completely different from Wankhede. I think the conditions there will be favorable for Mumbai pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. They will get swing and they will prove to be dangerous.
‘Kohli and de Villiers have to score runs’
Regarding RCB and India captain Virat Kohli, he said, “It is a different challenge for Virat as he has to play the T20 format immediately after playing the five-match Test series. He didn’t get any time in between. If RCB have to qualify for the playoffs then Virat and AB de Villiers will have to score runs.
