In addition to being Thor’s love interest in the comics, Jane Foster is a very complex character who gained even more attention from fans in the arc in which she receives the powers of the god of thunder.

However, the first adaptation of the ‘Thor‘ in the MCU portrayed the Jane lived by Natalie Portman as a mere love interest, while the sequel positioned her as the ‘damsel in distress’.

After that, she didn’t have major developments in the cinematic universe and ended up practically forgotten.

Now that she will return as the bearer of Mjolnir in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’the director Taika Waititi criticized the way she was overlooked in previous films.

“In those early films, Jane didn’t get the recognition she deserved. Those weren’t the most exciting versions of the female character that we want to see,” he told the fandango. When Natalie came out, I think she was just wanting to make sure that… I don’t even know how to say this, but she wanted something more. [do que foi mostrado].”

He continued:

“I had to talk to her about the fact that I wanted to change this character, just like we changed Thor’s character in ‘Ragnarok‘. I told her we would give her more freedom, adventure and fun, because Natalie He is a very funny person indeed. I think ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ made that franchise more appealing to other actors. Himself Christian [Bale] saw this and said, ‘I want to do something fun,’ he came up to me and said he wanted to be a part of it. AND Natalie also.”
