Thor 4 Runtime Revealed: Look forward to the shortest MCU film in 4 years

It won’t be long before Chris Hemsworth returns as the thunder god Thor in the next Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder. And it should be pretty short.

With “Thor: Love and Thunder” fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can expect from July 6, 2022 probably the most refreshing Marvel adventure of recent times. At least that’s what the trailers released so far suggest: a Thor (Chris Hemsworth) who looks like he’s washed his hair with the shampoo of the gods and who dresses like he’s on a world tour with Tenacious D. Then the worlds that the battle-weary warrior roams in search of himself. One almost wishes Christian Bale’s Gorr the Godslayer would just be cut out, so as not to spoil this peaceful moment.

But cinema fans just want to be entertained; for everything else there are cat videos. And you will probably have time for them again very quickly after going to the cinema, if the information is correct. Because, as the large US cinema chain AMC and the British cinema company Cineworld both state (via, “Thor: Love and Thunder” should be quite short. And exactly:

– 119 minutes –

That would be four minutes longer than originally reported, but still pretty darn short by recent MCU standards. Whereby “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with its 126 minutes already triggered the trend back to moderate runtimes. The time of Marvel films with massive running times of 150 minutes and more seems to be over for the time being, because “Thor: Love and Thunder” would be the shortest MCU film since “Ant-Man and the Wasp” with 119 minutes. from 2018 (118 minutes). In fact, there are only five films in the MCU that would be shorter: the first two films with the thunder god, “Thor” (115 minutes) and “Thor: The Dark Kingdom” (112 minutes), as well as “The Incredible Hulk” (112 minutes) , “Ant-Man” (117 minutes) and “Doctor Strange” (115 minutes).

And let’s be honest, the running time says nothing about the quality of a film. On the contrary, sometimes filmmakers with a crisp running time only prove that they are able to tell a focused story without getting bogged down in too many trivia. And there was a time when a running time of around 90 minutes was considered a good average. 120 minutes? It was almost an epic. And while Thor: Love and Thunder is really that “short”, it looks like a lot of fun, doesn’t it? Check out the trailer again.

Thor: Love and Thunder is packed with superstars

Thor: Love and Thunder is said to be very different from previous films starring Chris Hemsworth’s character. Director Taika Waititi wanted to breathe new life into the series. After all, this is the very first fourth installment in a solo film series within the MCU. That’s what he said opposite Entertainment Weekly:

“It’s kind of a midlife crisis movie, really. That’s the question we all ask ourselves: are we doing the right thing and are we doing all we can in the world? I think right now, as the world is still recovering from this pandemic, it’s a good question to ask. It’s about whether we’re doing enough to take care of each other and to protect ourselves.”

And there’s one more thing you can be sure of about director Taika Waititi’s second Marvel film: Thor: Love and Thunder is star-packed. Alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor, there’s a reunion with Jamie Alexander as Sif, Tessa Thompson as Vakyrie, the entire Guardians team (Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel) and even Sam Neill, Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth as theater actors. Newcomers are Christian Bale as Gorr the Slayer of the Gods, Russell Crowe as Zeus and Melissa McCarthy.
