Thelma & Louise Is Turned into a Musical With Amanda Seyfried

Actress Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls) is developing a musical adaptation of Thelma & Louise, the classic 1991 film directed by Ridley Scott. The information is from Variety.

Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) is also attached to the project, although it’s not yet known which roles Seyfried and Wood will play.

Reports about the musical have been circulating since 2021, with the original screenwriter of the feature, Callie Khouri, and musicians Neko Case and Haley Feiffer associated with the project.

In the original film, Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) go on a fun weekend away from their mundane lives, but when a man they know sexually assaults Thelma, Louise shoots the man. Afraid that the police won’t believe their story, the two become fugitives, and when finally cornered by the police, they drive their car into the Grand Canyon in an instantly iconic ending.

This week, Amanda Seyfried won a Golden Globe for her performance in the miniseries The Dropout, but did not attend the event, according to her, because she was “deeply involved in the process of creating a new musical”, in a possible reference to Thelma & Louise.

Seyfried has been in other musicals before, the Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!.
