Although the big party has been postponed due to the corona, the celebration of the Queen’s 50th anniversary of the government is far from over.
On Saturday, the Royal House issued a very special new picture of the entire royal family to mark the anniversary. And it attracts attention.
The picture shows the Queen surrounded by virtually her entire closest family, which means children, grandchildren and her sister, Princess Benedict.
According to royal house expert and historian Lars Hovbakke Sørensen, a picture of that caliber is relatively rare, and only something that happens at very important events.
The new photo of the entire royal family was taken on Friday prior to the dinner that the Crown Prince and Crown Princess held for the Queen.

‘It is quite rare and quite unusual. And it also underscores how important an event this is. It is the most important event in the Royal House for 50 years, “he says and explains that a government anniversary is one of the most important things for a royal house.
»Queen Margrethe sees the government anniversary as more important and more official than her 80th birthday. And a 50th anniversary of the government is a big event, because not many people achieve that. It is a more important milestone than a round birthday, “he says as an explanation that it is right now – and not at the regent’s round birthday – that the impressive picture was taken.[display-posts orderby="rand"]
“The Queen is the second longest-serving head of state in the world of the living heads of state. Only Queen Elizabeth has sat longer than her, so it is very, very special, “says Hovbakke Sørensen.
The picture shows Queen Margrethe in the middle with Prince Christian behind her, while the Crown Prince’s family is on the left in the picture with Princess Benedict, and Prince Joachim’s family is on the right in the picture.
The Queen was also released on Friday, where Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik, among others, took part in the Folketing’s celebration of the Queen’s 50th Regent’s Anniversary at Christiansborg.

The line-up must show the future of the monarchy, assesses Lars Hovbakke Sørensen.
“She’s going to appear as the head of the family. And then it’s marked that Prince Christian is standing right behind her. It underlines the continuity between Queen Margrethe and the fact that Prince Christian will one day inherit the throne. “
“It could have been the Crown Prince who was behind the Queen, but they have clearly chosen to put the families on either side of her, so it is very fitting that it is not Crown Prince Frederik who is right behind the Queen,” he says .
Although throughout history many pictures have been taken and many paintings of former royal families have been painted, according to Lars Hovbakke Sørensen it is rare that one has seen an official picture with so many children on it.

Another thing that probably also catches the eye of many is that 14-year-old princess Isabella appears very adult in the picture, where she is wearing a long, dark blue dress.
The princess has attracted a lot of attention in the past year. Only at the confirmation of her big brother Prince Christian, when she angrily exclaimed to her mother: ‘I was going with grandma, are you completely gone?’.
Next, the princess also became a hit on social media when she during a national match got a picture taken with the instagrammer Anders Hemmingsen.
“This is the first time we see an official picture of her that way. The pictures we have seen lately, she has seemed very teenage-like, and here she seems more adult-like, and that is probably why she stands out, “says Lars Hovbakke Sørensen.
The new official picture of the royal family was taken on Friday evening prior to the dinner that the Crown Prince and Crown Princess held for the Queen, which took place in the Table Hall in Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg.
The photo was taken in the green salon and the photographer is Steen Brogaard.
