The Red Flames end 2022 with a recital against Slovakia in a friendly

The Red Flames ended their 2022 year with a 7-0 victory in a friendly match against Slovakia on Saturday at the Joseph Marien stadium of Union Saint-Gilloise.

For Julie Biesmans’ 100th cap, the Red Flames started the game with their feet to the metal and opened the scoring as the quarter of an hour approached. On a cross from Tessa Wullaert, Sari Kees extended a header to the bottom by Justine Vanhaevermaet (14th).

The players of Ives Serneels then took advantage of the largesse of the Slovak defense to double the bet on a goal against his camp by Diana Bartovicova (23rd). In the process, Wullaert scored his 70th goal for the national team to make it 3-0 (25th). Belgium then planted a fourth goal in the first period on a header from Tine De Caigny (33rd). At rest, Ives Serneels made several changes, notably bringing Hannah Eurlings up. The Oud-Heverlee player quickly stood out by scoring 5-0 on a center from Wullaert (55th).

In the last quarter of an hour, the Belgian players scored two new goals via Wullaert who offered himself a double on an error by the Slovak defense (76th) and Ella Van Kerckhoven, who came into play a few minutes earlier, on a center of Eurlings (84th).

The Red Flames thus complete a year 2022 rich in emotions. During the Euro last July, they reached the quarter-finals, eliminated in stoppage time by Sweden. Last month, however, they failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup after a first round elimination from the play-offs in Portugal.
