The Red Cross welcomed more than 10,500 asylum seekers in 2021

Among these people of 97 different nationalities, the Red Cross counted more than 2,500 children, including 465 unaccompanied foreign minors (MENA).

The organization recalls that the network has been completely saturated since last September and that Red Cross workers have been working in exceptional circumstances due to the constant adjustments due to the pandemic as well as the impact of flooding in several centres.

For more than 30 years, the Belgian Red Cross has been mandated by the Federal State to participate in the reception of people who request international protection on Belgian territory.

As part of World Refugee Day on June 20, several Red Cross centers will open their doors to the public and offer them the opportunity to meet refugee candidates who have been received.
