“The MR calls for the entry into force of the salary increase for police officers without delay. It is also necessary to arrange the ends of career in order to allow the exercise of lighter functions the last years , declared the president of the party, Georges-Louis Bouchez, following the Deputy Prime Minister, David Clarinval.
As part of the budget negotiations, the government has decided to spread out the application of the agreement negotiated between the police unions and the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, to increase the salaries of the police. A first increase will take place on October 1, 2023 followed by a second stage in October 2024 and a final installment on October 1, 2025. The advantageous pension scheme constituted by the NAPAP (non-activity prior to retirement) should be phased out by 2030.
The unions then spoke of a “declaration of war” and announced that they would take action. They had targeted Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden (CD&V), even though they said they recognized the liberal touch in the budget cuts.
