As a health measure to avoid contagions, the 2022 Rotterdam International Film Festival will be online. The increase in Covid-19 cases in the Netherlands forced the organizers to make the decision to suspend the face-to-face edition, This after the Dutch authorities announced a new period of confinement between the end of December 2021 and the beginning of 2022.

Having defined the above, the festival released the list of films that are part of the official selection that will compete for the Tiger Award. Among those chosen is the Mexican Malintzin 17, by Eugenio Polgovsky and Mara Polgovsky.

It is a film edited posthumously after Eugenio passed away in 2017. His sister Mara was in charge of editing after having found the material after his death. The final work shows that the filmmaker filmed from his window a personal story with his daughter while they observe the birth of a dove. It approaches the parental relationship from two perspectives: that of the father and that of the girl.

On the other hand, the Mexican film designated to compete for the Oscars, Fire night, It also comes to the IFFR (Rotterdam International Film Festival) to participate in the Harbor section, a section that aims to reflect the multidimensional nature of the festival.
