The Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard affair will be at the heart of a documentary

The firm Discovery Plus has just ordered a documentary on the affair between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, which will retrace the break between these two stars over two episodes.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: the end of a heated romance

The start of their romance began in 2009, when Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met on the set of Rhum Express. Despite their 23 years of difference (now Johnny Depp is 58 and Amber Heard is 35), the two actors begin their love affair on the set of Bruce Robinson’s film. In 2015, the couple decided to get married during a small, very private ceremony. But very quickly, their relationship deteriorated. Johnny Depp got into serious drinking problems, as witnessed by the film crew Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Then, in 2018, Amber Heard filed for divorce, and accused her husband of physical violence on several occasions. The star ofAquaman claimed that Johnny Depp became a violent freak every time he used drugs or alcohol.

It is the beginning of a stormy separation which ended in court. Johnny Depp has denied Amber Heard’s accusations. Quickly, the press took hold of the story. Johnny Depp then stepped up to the plate, deciding to sue for defamation all media, like The Sun, who called him a man beating women. Tim Burton’s favorite actor then tries to turn the tide, by claiming that it was Amber Heard who manipulated him and hit him repeatedly. He qualifies himself as a victim of a violent woman. Amber Heard in turn denies these accusations and presents photographs of her injured and bruised. Other testimonies then sided with Johnny Depp, claiming that these assault and battery came from Elon Musk, with whom Amber Heard was having an affair.

Today, the two actors await the verdict of their trial. But in Hollywood the case is already decided, at least by the studio Warner Bros., who sided with Amber Heard. Indeed, Johnny Depp, who plays Grindelwald in the first two Fantastic Beasts, was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen on the third opus. Amber Heard, for her part, is still in the role of Mera, who will return in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.

A documentary on this case

The Discovery studio has just ordered a documentary on this case. For the moment titled Johnny vs Amber, this documentary will contain two episodes and will tell the story of the break between the two actors, and how it all turned into a matter of justice. Also produced by Optomen, each of the episodes will take the point of view of one of the two concerned. The documentary will also feature interviews with lawyers involved in both sides and testimonies from relatives of the former couple. The project will also examine numerous recordings and videos captured by the couple themselves. Johnny vs Amber will be available this fall on Discovery Plus.

Clare Laycock, senior vice president of entertainment planning at Discovery said:

The series provides an in-depth look at the epic battle that fueled the #JusticeforJohnnyDepp and #IStandWithYouAmberHeard fan campaigns and the very public High Court case. Optomen did a fantastic job turning this multi-layered story into something both gripping and horrifying.

Nick Hornby, Optomen’s co-CEO added that:

Through tapes, home videos and text messages shown in court, these films give viewers a rare and important glimpse into a marriage that tragically turned out to be, and shed light on the critically important issue of domestic violence.

We will let you judge whether this documentary project is a good idea or not. Anyway, maybe Johnny vs Amber will allow to bring some clarity to this legal match which fascinates the American media.
