The House of the Dragon: Artist Raises Expectations for Game of Thrones Derivative

The House of the Dragon (House of the Dragon), derived from Game of Thrones about House Targaryen, arrives in 2022 on HBO Max and Barrie Gower, makeup artist on the series, praised the scripts of the series.

The long-awaited series takes place many years before the events of Game of Thrones and the filming of the first season has already wrapped.

“We finished the first season of House of the Dragon in January. So we were involved in the first season of that. And we have a lot of characters to play,” explained Gower.

“I think…again, we can’t say much about this, but I think the only thing we can say is that going into it, it’s obviously a completely different story from Game of Thrones – many years earlier.”

Gower also expressed that while he can’t reveal too much, the show’s writing is “amazing” and that he’s excited to see how the world responds to it.

“The scripts are amazing. They are really amazing. And it’s going to be really exciting to see how that’s received. But it’s very well written, and there are some fantastic stories in there. That’s all I can say, really.”

More about House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon will be an HBO Max production and will not have the involvement of original series creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

The plot will follow the lineage of the Targaryens 200 years before Game of Thrones, with their story adapted from the book Fire and Blood.

House of the Dragon was ordered directly as a series, without needing pilot approval. The first season will have 10 episodes.

Miguel Sapochnik, director of major episodes of Game of Thrones, will co-show and direct the pilot. The project began development by another veteran of the original series, writer and producer Bryan Cogman.

In the story, a fight between brothers can trigger a war. Prince Daemon Targaryen would be aiming for King Viserys’ throne.

House of the Dragon arrives on August 21, 2022. Game of Thrones continues on HBO Max.
