The Handmaid’s Tale: Season 5 gets premiere date and first photos

The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 premiere is just around the corner and, in the countdown, the streaming platform hulu brought the first news about the show, including the official synopsis of the new episodes, first photos and the premiere date of the season that could be the last of the series.

The images, which can be seen just below, show Serena and June on a collision course after the events of the season four finale.

June Osborne, by Elisabeth Moss, has ditched the handmaids’ attire for more elegant robes that give off a businesswoman air, and her sharp gaze already tells her she’s no joke.

Meanwhile, Yvonne Strahovski’s Serena appears in mourning robes at what appears to be the wake of Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), or what’s left of him, but wears a grim smile.

As for the season synopsis, it reads: “June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford as she struggles to redefine her identity and purpose. Widow Serena tries to gain attention in Toronto as Gilead’s influence seeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence works with Aunt Lydia as he tries to reform Gilead and rise to power. June, Luke and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.”

Showrunner Bruce Miller shares, “We are so grateful to Hulu and MGM for returning the series for a fifth season, and especially to our loyal fans for their support. We are thrilled to be able to continue to tell these stories, with our incredible cast and crew.”
