The guaranteed salary in the event of bereavement leave also in the federal public administration

This concerns the allocation of bereavement leave to the guaranteed remuneration for contract workers in the federal administrative civil service.

The Chamber approved a CD&V bill last June to extend bereavement leave. This increased from three to ten days upon the death of a child or spouse, or three days to be taken between the death and the funeral of the relative, and seven days in the year following the death. These ten days are paid at 100%, via the small unemployment scheme, and apply to employees as well as to the self-employed and civil servants.

However, in the current state of the regulations, a deduction from the guaranteed salary was not possible with regard to contract workers in the federal administrative civil service.

The Council of Ministers decided on Friday to fill this gap.
