In just a few hours, The Gray Man will come to netflix after almost a year of waiting. Directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (avengers endgame), the film also has a cast of luxury: Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Anne of Arms Y Rege-Jean Page They are the protagonists of this story. And, with an impressive visual development, this film that combines drama, action, suspense and even a bit of a thriller has everything to become a success.
The Gray Man tells the story of Court Gentry, Ryan Gosling’s character, who was a cold ex-con before being recruited by Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton) to work with them at the CIA. Codenamed the Sierra Six, Gentry secures a police fix and is released from jail to begin his new duties. In them he must perform the most secret and special tasks of the Intelligence Agency. (Spoiler Synopsis).
However, one day everything changes and Fitzroy loses his position, which is then filled by a new boss: Denny Carmichael. This character, played by Regé-Jean Page, is in charge of the operatives and everything related to the CIA. So much so that, with new orders, Sierra Six has the task of killing “a very bad man” who is against the United States government. (Spoiler Synopsis)
And this is how a film full of suspense, drama, action and adrenaline begins. The Gray Man and specifically the russo brothers, they found the perfect formula to encompass this type of genre in a single story. This is what, precisely, makes the feature film one of the most captivating and visually attractive that have been released so far this year. Also, another great success of the directors and screenwriters is to have been able to start a story with such fluidity.
Well, it’s not just epic action scenes, but the scripts are the most successful for each scene. With great ingenuity, the production team managed to combine drama, comedy and black humor in each of the actors’ lines. In addition, the sound and the level of production that is seen in the film is an unprecedented spectacle. As is well known, Netflix managed to tour several places in Europe to shoot this story and so they made it the most expensive in its history.
So much so that each city in which the plot takes place manages to transform it into something without equal. However, the truth is that the staging would not be the same without the great work of its actors. It is that, they are the ones who manage to lead one, as a spectator, to connect with their escapes and their tours of the world. Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans make an excellent combination as the hero and villain of the story.. At the same time, his work separately from him is worth admiring, especially Evans’s. Well, the actor was able to demonstrate his versatility, leaving behind roles that have marked him abysmally like Captain America.
Secondly, Regé-Jean Page also did an outstanding job as far as interpretation is concerned. Of course, in order to learn more about his history, his character lacked a bit of development and there are certain aspects of his making wrong decisions that are not fully understood. However, with this he showed that he is not only a heartthrob, but can also give life to a villain.
At the same time, Ana de Armas shone again in this work. On more than one occasion, the actress showed that she has the ability to personify any character, but with this one she managed to exceed, at least, my expectations. She is not just a CIA agent, but she generates empathy, charisma and emotion when the viewer connects with the film. Because, although her character is secondary to her, she manages to mark that turning point in the protagonist that ends up being unpredictable.
However, it should be noted that not everything is wonderful in The Gray Man. The truth is that the russo brothers exceeded my expectations with the film, but at some point it brought back memories of the epic battles of avengers endgame. Apparently, the directors, they did not manage to run from that mark of Marvel for this new film. In fact, they get to be a bit exaggerated at times, but beyond that minimum detail, the film is worth seeing and enjoying over the weekend.
