Patton Oswalt, the interpreter of Pip the Troll in the MCU, would he have made a dumpling? The actor has just announced to everyone’s surprise that “The Eternals 2” has been confirmed with Chloé Zhao returning to direct.
The Eternals, the new superhero team
Phase IV of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continued to grow with Thor: Love and Thunderin theaters since July 13, 2022. Prior to this film, the studio introduced new superheroes with two films: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Eternalsreleased in September and November 2021 respectively. The latter, directed by Chloe Zhao, presented a whole team, beings who have been protecting the Earth for thousands of years. All the while, they fight the Deviants. But just as their battle seems to have come to an end, these creatures mysteriously reappear.
The Eternals had a great success in the world with more than $400 million in revenue. However, with its estimated budget of $200 million, one could expect a bigger score. Especially with the variety of its cast, including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, or even Kit Harington. The feature film will still have made it possible to discover new heroes and to open towards a sequel certainly more ambitious.
Patton Oswalt drops the info
Indeed, as with every Marvel, The Eternals gave us two post-credits scenes. In the second, we could see an important character in the comics: Starfox, who is none other than Thanos’ brother. Interpreted on screen by Harry Styles, we should a priori see him again in one of the next films. Why not in The Eternals 2 ? Anyway, that’s what I hope Patton Oswalt, who in that same post-credits scene plays the Troll Pip. The actor expressed during an interview his desire, while letting go, to everyone’s surprise, that a sequel would have been confirmed.
They announced that there would be a sequel to Eternals. Chloé Zhao will direct it. So hopefully there will be more adventures for Starfox and Pip.
His statement is still to be taken with a grain of salt. At Marvel, the projects are not announced anyhow. Nevertheless, it would be quite logical to see The Eternals 2 be part of phase VI of the MCU, which, officially, only consists of two three films for the moment: Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. At the last Comic-Con, the studio has announced these projects, and many more, but nothing about the sequel to Chloé Zhao’s film. A confirmation could arrive during the D23the major Disney convention scheduled for September 10-13.
