Tonight on Rai Movie (digital terrestrial channel 24) from 21:10, for the cycle “The vice of cinema”, appointment with The enemy at the gates, war movie diretto da Jean-Jacques Annaud, con Jude Law, Rachel Weisz, Ed Harris, Joseph Fiennes, Bob Hoskins e Ron Perlman.
Inspired by the novel “Enemy at Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad” written by William Craig, the film is inspired by a only partially true story, a known episode during the Second World War, that of the duel between two snipers, of which however we find news only in some Soviet sources, as many historians have noted.
The plot de The Enemy at the Gates opens into a Stalingrad that is in the grip of the Nazis and every meter of land is contested with arms in hand.
Marksman Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law) takes down the Germans one after another. Political commissar Danilov (Joseph Fiennes) makes him a powerful means of propaganda. He is the Soviet hero par excellence who does not miss a beat. A German major, König (Ed Harris), decides to challenge him on his own ground: precision in aiming. The two begin a chase that will lead to the final confrontation.
In the middle the love affair unfolds between the young Vassili and the beautiful Tanja Černova (Rachel Weisz), also loved by Danilov, but never reciprocated.
