There are few people who think of others and do something. Professor Sujatha Srinivasan is one of the few such people. He is a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras. He has made such a ‘wheelchair’ for the differently abled, which is not only comfortable, it is important in making them self-reliant. While making this wheelchair, he took care that the handicapped face more problems in the markets, on the roads or in the fields, where they cannot move around easily.

They need the help of others to push the wheelchair to these places. The wheelchair made by Professor Sujata and her colleagues makes the handicapped self-reliant. They do not need the help of others to move around anywhere. According to a report, three lakh wheelchairs are sold in India every year. Out of this 2.5 lakh wheelchairs are imported. 95 percent of these wheelchairs are of the same size, which is not comfortable for everyone. The demand for the wheelchair made by Professor Sujata is increasing. You can go anywhere with the help of this wheelchair.

Professor Sujatha and her student Swastik Das started a new startup ‘Neomotion’ in the year 2020. With the help of this startup, anyone can make a wheelchair according to their needs. People from different backgrounds and regions have been added to Sujata’s team. It employs more than two dozen people. Under Neomotion, electric-charged wheelchairs are made. It is the first indigenous Motor Wheelchair, which can move smoothly on bumpy, rocky or flat roads. That too without anyone’s help. Running at a speed of 25 kmph, this wheelchair makes life easier for the differently-abled.

The wheelchairs made by Sujata’s startup ‘Neomotion’ are of two types ‘Neofly’ and ‘Neobolt’. The Neofly Wheelchair can be modified in 18 ways to suit your health and lifestyle. Equipped with a motor, the Neobolt wheelchair can be converted into a scooter, which will run up to 25 km on a single charge. It also gets brakes, horn, lights and mirrors. The Neofly Wheelchair is priced at Rs 39,900 while the Neobolt is priced at Rs 55,000. Its order can be booked by paying one thousand rupees on the startup’s website.
