Former India captain Anil Kumble believes that technology will have more influence on decisions in future as no player can rule out the presence of ‘artificial intelligence’ (data intelligence).
Giving the example of DRS, Kumble said how it has changed the process of decision making. “DRS has influence in cricket and I am sure that in the times to come, the influence of technology on decisions will increase further,” he said.
“Apart from this, the acceptance of players is also important to be a part of this initiative or else you would have been left behind,” he said. Kumble said that debate is welcome but his personal opinion is that it is better to adopt technology. He said, ‘I know there is still a debate on whether technology should be used so much in the game or should be based on my belief that I saw the ball and hit it.’
“It’s a simple approach but I think if we don’t use the technology we have to improve the game, we will be left behind,” he said. Kumble, who was the head coach of the Indian team, said that in the coming times, technology will be used more in sports.
“I don’t think only broadcasters will use technology in sports, but federations will also find new ways to incorporate technology in sports,” he said. Now the possibility of this has increased with the advent of the OTT platform.
