Taranto, June 13, 2022 – Testing in progress also in Taranto for the municipal elections 2022. The ballot proceeds slowly: after 4 pm the data has not yet been received, not even for a section (under the map with the results in real time).
In the Apulian city the turnout settled at 52.13%, down by 6 percentage points compared to the administrative in 2017 (at that time 58.52% of those entitled voted). Four candidates for mayor: Rinaldo Melucci (Pd), outgoing mayor, at the head of the ‘Taranto Ecosystem’ coalition made up of 11 lists, with Pd, M5S, Verdi, Psi-Pri and various civics of the progressive area; Walter Musilloformer secretary of the Democratic Party in past years, who leads the ‘Great Alliance for Taranto’ between the center-right (Forza Italia, Fratelli d’Italia and Lega, which however is present with the name “Italy first) and various civic offices; Massimo Battistaformerly M5S, with three supporting lists; Luigi Abbatealso with 3 supporting lists.
The candidates for the City Council, 32 seats, are just over 800 distributed in 27 lists. For the early resignation in November 2021 of 17 out of 32 directors, between the majority and the minority, there is currently a commissioner in the Town Hall: the prefect Vincenzo Cardellicchio.
