While talking with the THRStallone was asked about the most underrated film of his long career, with the actor choosing the 2000 remake of Carter the Avenger, titled Get Carter.

The Relentless was one of many remakes that did not reach audiences. Remakes of popular movies often don’t work well with critics and audiences, who often prefer the original and can’t understand why a remake is needed beyond financial gain.

Sylvester Stallone’s Disappointment

Sylvester Stallone calls the film a “huge disappointment”, saying that “a tremendous nostalgia” was attached to the original film that hurt the remake’s performance.

While The Relentless didn’t make much of an impression upon its release, it left a big mark on Stallone.

“Believe it or not, I think The Relentless was really underrated. That was a big disappointment. I learned the hard way that remakes, even if you do better than the original, there’s tremendous nostalgia attached to the original.”

“And a lot of times they’re not done well either. Like the last Love, Sublime Love. Why would you mess with something like that? Not just because of the quality of the original, but because people’s tastes change. Musicals don’t do that anymore. Kids don’t like that kind of music anymore. So who is your audience? It’s crazy”.
