Chris Pratt talked about his vocal performance in Super Mario Bros: The Movie with Variety, explaining that he is proud of his performance after working with the directors to figure out what worked and what didn’t.

“I’ve worked closely with the directors, I’ve tried a few things and I’ve come up with something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear.”he said. “It’s a narrative voiceover, it’s an animated film. I’m not going to be wearing a plumber suit running all over the place. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it’s up-to-date and unlike anything you’ve ever heard in the Mario world before.”.

Co-producer Chris Meledandri recently told TooFab that Mario’s voice won’t use a stereotypical Italian accent. Recently Meledandri also defended the choice of Chris Pratt, guilty of not being Italian like Mario.
