“Squid Game” is going to become a reality show. After the phenomenon series, Netflix will be inspired by the principle to have hundreds of participants compete in games this time non-lethal. The winner will be eligible to win $4.56 million.
Squid Game : a success and drifts
Squid Game will have had a strong impact when it was released on Netflix at the end of 2021. With its strong concept, which sees people participating in a series of deadly games in the hope of winning a large sum of money, and thus exiting their poverty, the show has found its audience. Records have been broken. And the principle has been taken up or diverted, for better or for worse. Thus, we saw a Youtubeur recreating the games with hamsters in a hilarious video. Also, the SNL offered a parody in a clip. While a free video game was created from the Netflix series.
On the worse side, we learned that the phenomenon was found in a school and went wrong. Students having played 1, 2, 3, Sun, with the consequence for the losers, not death, but beatings. Finally, note that real games were going to be organized by a hotel establishment called St John. Already we felt there was a false good idea. Because let us remember that the first goal of Squid Game is of criticize our society. A society where the human has no more value and where its execution serves as entertainment for the wealthy. The horror of the story proposed by Hwang Dong-hyuk therefore seems to have been set aside and many only retain the “challenge” of these games. And unfortunately, Netflix seems determined to go in this direction too.
The Challenge soon on Netflix
In fact, we learn by a teaser (in one article) that Squid Game will become a reality show offered by the platform. A competition will be organized with 456 attendees who will compete in different events in the hope of winning the jackpot: $4.56 million! Is the largest sum (in cash) for a specific reality game Deadline.
We will find in this series in ten episodes games in the series, and new ones. Participants will have to be strategists, make alliances and probably betray each other. Obviously, the losers will not be killed but simply eliminated. This in no way detracts from the cynicism and opportunism of Netflix, which surfs on the phenomenon by obscuring the societal criticism which was the strength of the series.
Squid Game: The Challenge will soon arrive on the platform. The casting is in progress.
