Spider-Man No Way Home: Tom Holland recounts his first meeting with Willem Dafoe

We’re just days away from the release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and the film’s promotion has picked up speed. Comedian Tom Holland took advantage of an interview to reveal his meeting with the great Willem Dafoe.

Spider-Man – No Way Home : the return of Willem Dafoe

On December 15, the filmmaker Jon Watts will reveal his new movie to the world: Spider-Man : No Way Home. This new installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will conclude the Spider-Man trilogy initiated in 2017 by Spider-Man : Homecoming. But this third chapter will have a very special taste. Indeed, in this film, the multiverse is shattered, and many villains from previous Spider-Man sagas land in history.

Indeed, we know that Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church, who respectively played Dr Octopus, The Green Goblin and The Sandman in Sam Raimi’s trilogy, will all come back to the screen. In the same way, Jamie Foxx and Rhys Ifans, who respectively camped Electro and the Lizard in the saga The Amazing Spider-Man will also appear in No Way Home. A great way to bring back anthology villains who will spend their hatred of Peter Parker on the version of Tom Holland.

Thus, Willem Dafoe, almost twenty years after the release of the very first Spider-Man, is back in the shoes of Norman Osborn, aka Le Bouffon Vert, the most emblematic of the weaver’s enemies. It is not yet clear exactly what the scale of his participation in the blockbuster will be, but his film will mark his official entry into the MCU in any case. Something to delight fans of the old days.

The meeting between Tom Holland and Willem Dafoe

In a recent interview with Comicbook, the comedian Tom Holland looked back at how he met Willem Dafoe. A rather funny and unexpected first meeting:

It’s a funny story the first time I met Willem. Obviously, at that point, it was still a huge secret that all of these villains were in the movie. So the actors were moving around with capes and naturally, you know these actors were very excited to come back. They came to the set a week before filming started to see what it looked like. But also to meet Jon, to meet me, to walk around the set and have a good time. I stumble upon this guy under his hood. I told him: “Watch out, mate”. And there he took off his hood and I was almost scared. “Oh shit, the goblin is here.” He was adorable, he was really wonderful. A real pleasure to work with him.

It must be said, at the same time, that to cross the road of Willem Dafoe in this way, without warning, is a sacred surprise. Willem Dafoe is an iconic actor in cinema, which turned into huge classics like Mississippi Burning, The Last Temptation of Christ, Sailor and Lula, and more recently The Lighthouse, The French Dispatch, or Nymphomaniac. He’s even been nominated four times at the Oscars for his participation in Platoon in 1987, to Shadow of a Vampire in 2001, at The Florida Project in 2018 and At Eternity’s Gate in 2019.
