Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to storm the box office. As part of the hype, Marvel fans are now looking back to the Tobey Maguire era and have the ideal premise for Spider-Man 4.
Sam Raimi once had a plan for a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire. However, after the script drafts left him unsatisfied and he felt that he would not be able to make a quality film within the allotted time, the project was scrapped. In the wake of the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans are now demanding a fourth feature film starring Tobey Maguire.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” are available as box sets from Amazon
Last year, the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut made the rounds on social media platforms, calling for the release of Zack Synder’s Justice League from the DC fan base. The appeal achieved its success and so fans received their re-cut version of Justice League under the direction of Zack Snyder. Numerous Twitter users are now hoping for similar success with the hashtag #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4:
“I want ‘Spider-Man’ 4 under the direction of Sam Raimi. I know you won’t disappoint fans Sony. #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4”
“Because Sam Raimi still has more to tell. #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4″
“All right Sony, it’s time for #MakeRaimiSpiderMan4.”
The fans provided the idea for “Spider-Man 4” at the same time: According to this, it should be about an aging Peter Parker or Spider-Man, who should be much rougher and darker than we have known from the superhero. The possibly not-so-friendly neighborhood spider would then become a much more serious take on the Marvel character, much like the Wolverine version James Mangold brought us with 2017’s “Logan.” Here, too, the fans want an emotional story that is torn from the rest of the events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Because some decisions can have serious consequences for the MCU, as the end of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” proves in the following video:
Sam Raimi’s original plans for Spider-Man 4
Sam Raimi already had a plan for the story of “Spider-Man 4”. Both Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were set to return in their lead roles, and two new characters were also planned for the film universe: The Falcon and Felicia Harway, better known as Black Cat. John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway were being considered for these roles. Also first Storyboards had already been made. With a release date in 2011, “Spider-Man 4” was originally supposed to appear in cinemas four years after the third spin-off, but was never implemented.

Instead, Sony has started a reboot with “The Amazing Spider-Man”, which started in 2012 and was followed in 2014 with “The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro”. In the wake of the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, not only have fans been demanding a fourth Tobey Maguire film, but they have also rallied online for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Whether and how Sony will react to these two requests remains to be seen. But anyone who wants extensive “Spider-Man” fan service is currently well catered for in the cinema with “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.
