‘Spider-Man 3’ IS NOT qualified for the BAFTA Film Awards – the “British Oscar”; Understand!

The acclaimed sequel ‘Spider-Man: No Return Home‘ was out of contention for nominations BAFTA Film Awards – popularly considered the “British Oscar”. The information was revealed by the portal Deadline.

According to the publication, the feature does not qualify for the 2022 awards due to the fact that Sony Pictures Entertainment not have made it available on the streaming platform aimed at gym members.

The first round of voting for the 2022 edition of the BAFTA ended on January 3rd, with rumors indicating that the Sony would have – deliberately – chosen not to make the feature available on this streaming, in order to preserve its exclusive release in theaters.

In an official statement, the British Academy pondered the matter:

“Spider-Man: No Return Home did not meet the eligibility criteria for the 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards and therefore did not qualify for entry. As outlined in our rulebook, all films must be made available to voting members on the BAFTA View platform, prior to the close of first-round voting, to ensure fairness and parity for all titles. However, the film was not made available by the distributor.”

Remembering that the movie has already earned impressive US$666.5 million in the US, surpassing the total box office of ‘Titanic‘ ($659.3M) in the country.

Furthermore, ‘no return home‘ also represents the BIGGEST box office in the history of Sony Pictures, disbanding the total collection of ‘Spider-Man: Away from Home‘ ($1.13B), which previously held the record.

The sequel continues to be shown in national cinemas.
