Soccer star Andrés Balanta (22) died during training

Tragic news from the sports world. Andres Balanta was considered a promising football talent from Colombia. In 2021 he became Colombian champion with Deportivo Cali and even made the national team squad at the U-20 World Cup in 2019. Most recently, the athlete had been loaned out to Atlético Tucumán by Deportivo Cali. But now shocking news is making the rounds: Andrés passed away during a training session!

The 22-year-old collapsed during training with Argentine first division club Atlético Tucumán and was taken to hospital. On Tuesday afternoon, however, the sad certainty followed. The club wrote via Twitter: “Atlético Tucumán regrets the death of the Colombian footballer Andres Balanta to have to confirm. With deep respect we hug and accompany his family and friends during this time.”

His trainer Lucas Pusineri described the terrible events during training opposite futbolred.com: “It’s unbelievable, we’re all very, very sad about everything. He fell while warming up.”. Doctors then tried to revive him for an hour – but in vain.
