Smallville star had unique experience with Marvel actor

Smallville was a hit with young audiences in the 2000s, bringing a new depiction of Superman to TV. The hero was exiting a few other unsuccessful series after two films were huge flops.

With a sure bet, CW managed to innovate and establish a standard among DC hero series by the network itself.

However, a Marvel actor, who is never remembered in Smallville, managed to do a single scene with the protagonist of the series.

“An interpretation of the Superman story finds young Clark Kent learning to use his superpowers in Kansas,” reads the series synopsis.

The cast features Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Erica Durance, Sam Jones III, Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack, arrested for a scandal for participating in a cult.

Dave Bautista lifted Tom Welling during action scene

In a recent episode of the Talk Ville podcast, with Michael Rosenbaum, the Lex Luthor of the series, Welling recalled some events in Smallville.

The actor commented that Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was the only one who managed to lift and hold him during an action scene (via ScreenRant🇧🇷

“He was the only person in my life who ever picked me up and held me down,” said the star.

Bautista played Aldar, the human-eating alien who is barely remembered in the series, despite appearing in the sixth season.

The show was the beginning of the CW’s era of heroes, and it’s still looked upon favorably today. Smallville explores Clark Kent’s early life until he becomes Superman.

Smallville’s action sequences were groundbreaking for TV at the time, and were helped by special effects and visuals to add clarity to the scene.

The series influenced others like Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash to follow similar and innovative action, with even better special effects today.

Smallville is available on HBO Max.
