Several hundred students celebrate Saint-V in Brussels despite its cancellation

Around 500 students, according to the estimate of the Brussels-Ixelles police, left the campuses of the ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) and VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) on Friday around 12:00 p.m. to go to the center of Brussels and celebrate Saint-Verhaegen, said Brussels-Ixelles police spokesperson Ilse Van de keere at the beginning of the afternoon, thus confirming a report from the RTBF.

The young people went to the places of Grand Sablon and the Bourse. Shortly after 2:00 p.m., there were 300 students left, only on the Place du Grand-Sablon. They expressed their intention to surrender Place de la Bourse to the police. The latter tolerates for the moment these improvised festivities.

The authorities of the two universities decided on Tuesday to cancel the Saint-Verhaegen, due to the deterioration of the health situation.
