Sète: discovering the night of museums and its surprises this Saturday, May 14

On Saturday May 14, 2022, the 18th edition of the European Night of Museums will take place. The opportunity to discover the different museums of Sète in a different way. Some museums have indeed decided to involve their visitors!

From the Musée de la Mer to the Musée Paul-Valéry, via the Espace Georges-Brassens, the Night of Museums is back for its 18th edition in the city of Sète this Saturday, May 14. Sea Museum

What would Sète be without its canals, without its boats… The Maritime Museum located rue Jean-Vilar offers an exhibition of 14 models of fishing boats, such as Catalan boats for example. Admission is free from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. non-stop. These works were made by André Aversa, an authentic renowned marine master. Afterwards, you can admire a staging of the famous nautical jousts.

Favorite: Espace Georges-Brassens

Visiting Sète is above all the obligatory passage to the Espace Georges-Brassens. It is located at 67 boulevard Camille Blanc. Contact: 04 99 04 76 26. Admission is free from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Since 2006, it is now 800m2 of space entirely dedicated to the poet-musician. This place opened in 1991 and was erected with a wide panorama on the Etang de Thau in the image of the artist known for his spirit of freedom.

The visit takes place in total immersion in the world of Georges Brassens and lasts a little over an hour. A chronological route is proposed with the presence of 10 thematic rooms with unique atmospheres. The implementation of technologies such as audios and videos will immerse you in the universe and the intimacy of the artist.


The Regional Center for Contemporary Art located at 26, Quai Aspirant Herber, will exceptionally be open until 11:30 p.m. Many activities will be offered to you in the afternoon. You can contact the museum on 04 67 74 94 37.

  • 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.: take part in an action art workshop designed and led by the artist Pascale Ciapp for teenagers aged 11 to 15. The objective of this workshop is to get teenagers to become one with the works in the exhibitions.
  • At 6 p.m.: conference by Philippe-Alain Michaud, exhibition curator and curator of cinema collections at the Center Georges-Pompidou. During this conference, he will share the results of his research on the links between art and cinema.
  • All evening: the mediation team offers the public flash visits to the exhibitions in the art centre.

Paul-Valery Museum

  • 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Painting and Poetry family workshop with Emma Shulman, visual artist. From 6 years old, within the limits of available places and by reservation.
  • 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.: as a trio! Baroque resonances in the museum. Free admission, all public, within the limit of available places. Discovery of the museum in music, visitors are invited to come across paintings and music from the Baroque period.

The Miam museum, located 23, Quai Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny will be accessible free of charge from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. An exhibition will be proposed: Modest Fictions & Augmented Realities. This exhibition tells the incredible story of an artistic and human adventure, original and quirky, whose main field of exploration is located in the Belgian Ardennes.

  • 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: family workshop with La Palanquée. Accessible from 8 years old, price €5.50, limited number of places, compulsory registration on 04 99 04 76 44. From the works of Jean Leclercq seen in the exhibition, you will be able to make four-handed drawings and 3d rocket prints.
