- Sehwag lauds Rahul-Rohit’s performance on England tour
- Indian cricket team was 2-1 ahead in the 5-match test series
- KL Rahul managed to score a total of 315 runs in 8 innings
Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag has praised openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. Both the Indian openers made a lot of noise with the bat in the Test series on the tour of England.
Rahul and Rohit shared century partnerships at Lord’s Test while half-centuries at Nottingham and The Oval. Both Indian openers also scored a century each in the series. While Rahul scored a century at the historic ground of Lord’s, Rohit scored a century at the Oval.
Sehwag told Sony Sports Network, ‘The contribution of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma cannot be forgotten. Had it not been for the partnership between KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, the middle order batsmen who were not scoring would have come to the crease early. In such a situation, the Indian team could have been out early.
The fifth and final Test match of the series was cancelled. Due to the outbreak of Corona in the Indian camp, the Manchester Test was announced to be canceled before the toss. However, there is a lot of talk about this. Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that the IPL is behind this.
According to Sehwag, ‘ he put India in a strong position. Openers batted 30-40 overs. If the top order did not perform, there would have been pressure on the middle order which was not in form. Our innings would have been cut early in many matches.
The Indian team was ahead 2-1 in the 5-match series. The BCCI took the decision to cancel the test, citing the safety of the players as paramount. This test was canceled after the consent of BCCI and ECB. However, there is no update from the BCCI or ECB regarding when this test will be played now.
The Indian team has to go for a limited overs series on the tour of England next year. Team India will play a series of 3 T20 and 3 ODI matches in England in the year 2022.
