Kranjska Gora, 8 January 2022 – Marta returns to the podium in giant slalom Bassino. The skier from Cuneo got a good third place on the difficult track in Kranjska Gora behind the French Tessa Worley and the Swedish Sara Hector, at the end of a race made complicated by the many disconnections of the snow. Disappoint Mikaela Shiffrin, only seventh, as well as Petra Vlhova. She did not qualify for the second heat Sofia Goggia.
Dominant Hector, Bassino has
First heat actually split in half, the first three, that is Hector, Worley and Bassino, immediately took almost a second of margin on their rivals, with Shiffrin e Vlhova even out of ten to almost a second and a half. In the second fraction there was Lara’s comeback Gut from the seventeenth position to the fifth, and that of Mikaela Shiffrin, without enchanting, who recovered seven positions by finishing seventh. Ahead was the race in the top three, even if the Canadian Grenier he frightened Bassino, with the blue who remained in front for a few cents (7). Sara Hector dominated in the second, with a total time of 2’15 “79, with 96 hundredths of an advantage over Worley and 1” 32 over Bassino, who thus obtained the nineteenth career podium. Shiffrin, as mentioned, did not exploit the giant and therefore earned little on Goggia, as well as Vlhova who finished fifteenth. Italy showed up in the second heat without the Bergamo rider, 31st and therefore no qualification, to which was added the absence communicated a few days ago due to Federica’s injury Brignone. So there remained the Marta Bassino card, to give her a hand from the usual Elena Curtoni which, however, only got the twenty-sixth position. In the overall standings, Shiffrin earns only 36 points and rises to 866, second is Vlhova at 731, third is Goggia at 657.
