Scandal at “Bares for Rares”: saleswoman breaks off at the last minute and refuses to sell

Of course, no one is forced to sell their sweethearts at “Bares for Rares”, but it is comparatively rare that the final decision is made at the last second.

Bares for Rares – The junk show with Horst Lichter

Laura Wagner and her mother Mechthild didn’t have any buttons in their ears, but they wanted to part with two stuffed animals from the Steiff company at “Bares für Rares”, which had been around for a few years. This is exactly what made them interesting for the expert Sven Deutschmanek, especially since the dog was produced before the Second World War.

The expert even dated the French bulldog to the early 1930s, which made it the highlight of the small collection. Although the Bambi was also pretty, the deer, which can be found quite often, should not fetch more than 20 euros. Things looked very different with the cute Wutz, who is traded in perfect condition for up to 1500 euros. However, the copy of mother and daughter Wagner was somewhat damaged, so that Sven Deutschmanek could not call up this sum, but at least 450 euros. Since the saleswomen wanted 500 euros, they gladly accepted the retailer card. Did Mechthild Wagner already suspect at this point that her daughter didn’t really want to sell after all?

Unexpected withdrawal: Sale fails at the last second

In the dealer room, everything went according to plan for Laura and Mechthild Wagner. The interest in the stuffed animals was great and so Fabian Kahl quickly raised 300 euros, who, like the expert, was after the dog. But Wolfgang Pauritsch also wanted to call the sitting four-legged friend his own and raised it to 400 euros.

While Mechthild Wagner was quite willing to accept the deal, her daughter suddenly began to hesitate. The experienced retailer then realized that the young lady didn’t want to part with her plush friends at heart and asked again. With his hunch, he hit the mark, because Laura Wagner decided at the last second not to sell and took the dog and deer back to her Bavarian homeland. Well then, have a good trip.

“Bares for Rares” runs on weekdays at 3:05 p.m. on ZDF, the offshoot ZDF Neo broadcasts repeats at 10:55 a.m. and at 7:20 p.m. The concept has not changed to this day. People like Laura and Mechthild Wagner have their goods appraised by experts and then haggle over the selling price in the dealer’s room. The prerequisite is, of course, that they are not copies or counterfeits.
